WECO’s optical sorter for grapes uses the latest ChromaxHD optical sorting technology and advanced algorithms to effectively remove underripe and overripe fruit as well as material other than grapes (MOG). These capabilities deliver significantly improved quality and increased throughput at a much lower price than alternative methods. Our system is also designed to be easy to understand and operate, with intuitive controls and a touchscreen interface refined over the past 30 years.
The automation provided by our wine grape sorting machine delivers tremendous gains in productivity and labor efficiency.
Models are available in widths of 32″ (81.3 cm) and 64″ (162.6 cm).
Advantages of the Multi-Camera System
- WECO designs and manufactures our camera/illuminator systems in-house specifically for high-speed sorting, helping to keep costs low.
- To maximize visibility of the product flow, we divide the flow into sections. This allows us to scale machines to virtually any width while maintaining a nearly flat-field, low-distortion image. For example, we use four cameras for a 32-inch (81 cm) wide sorter.
- Our resolution is far superior. Using four cameras to view a 32″ (81 cm) product flow provides four times more lateral pixels than a single camera viewing the same product flow.
- The lower the light level, the less accurate the sorting becomes. Dividing the product flow for viewing by multiple cameras provides a flatter image and higher signal levels.
- Each ChromaxHD camera module uses two high-speed DSP processors operating in parallel, enabling complex real-time sorting algorithms. This reduces system cost and increases reliability.
- If one camera fails, the remaining cameras continue sorting.
- Because the cameras are modular, they can be replaced easily in the field without requiring recalibration.
